　謹啓　早秋の候　貴台にはますます御清祥のことと心からお喜び申し上げます。

　この度、日露両政府により、本年12月の貴台の日本への訪問が発表されました。是非、この機会に広島・長崎を訪問していただきますようお願いいたします。被爆地市民は、貴台の被爆地訪問を心から歓迎いたします。

　御承知のとおり、広島と長崎では、1945年の原爆の投下により街は一瞬のうちに廃墟と化し、その年の終わりまでに両市合わせて約21万人の尊い命が失われました。原爆投下から71年が経ち、平均年齢が80歳を超えた被爆者は、放射線による後障害に苦しみながらも、世界の誰にも二度と核兵器による惨禍を体験させてはならないと自らの辛い体験を語り続けています。被爆地の願いはただ一つ、「核兵器のない世界」の実現にほかなりません。それは、核不拡散条約（ＮＰＴ）体制を強力に支持し、包括的核実験禁止条約（ＣＴＢＴ）を批准している貴国にも御理解いただけるのではないでしょうか。

　核超大国の大統領である貴台が、広島・長崎において、被爆の実相に触れ、核兵器廃絶へのゆるぎない決意を被爆地から世界へ発信していただければ、今後の「核兵器のない世界」の実現に向けた動きを大きく前進させることができると信じています。

　被爆地市民は、貴台と共に「核兵器のない世界」を目指して取り組んでいくことを希望しています。

　末筆ながら、貴台のますますの御活躍と御健勝を心からお祈りいたします。

Request for your visit to the A-bombed cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki

Dear Mr. President:

We hope this letter finds you in the best of health and spirits in this early fall season.

Recently, the governments of Japan and Russia announced your upcoming visit to Japan in December of this year. We would like to ask you to take this opportunity to visit Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Our citizens will wholeheartedly welcome you to the A-bombed cities.

As you know, the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945 reduced our cities to ashes in an instant and altogether took the precious lives of 210,000 people by the end of that year. 71 years have passed since then and the average age of the hibakusha is now over 80. While suffering the aftereffects of radiation, they continue to tell their painful stories to ensure that no one else in the world experiences another nuclear horror. The desire of the A-bombed cities is nothing else but realizing a nuclear-weapon-free world. We have no doubt that the Russian Federation, which strongly supports the NPT regime and ratified the CTBT, understands our sentiment.

We are convinced that if you, the president of a nuclear superpower, encounter the actual damage wrought by the atomic bombings in our cities and then communicate to the world your unequivocal determination to eradicate nuclear weapons, it will greatly advance efforts to realize this goal.

The citizens of the A-bombed cities look forward to striving with you towards a world without nuclear weapons.

In closing, we offer our best wishes for your health and great success in your endeavors.
