| The three-story school building was destroyed
by the fierce blast and heat rays. In the fires that broke out shortly after
the bombing, the building was burned down, excepting only the northern area of
the first and second floors. Of the 32 school officials who were inside, the
principal and other 28 officials were killed. The bombing also claimed the lives
of many students who had been mobilized for labor at the School. Moreover, it
was estimated that, of the School’s 1,581 pupils, about 1,300 died in their homes. |
